What Vitamins Should You Be Recommending to Customers This Season & Why?
With cold and flu season almost upon us, it’s the time of year when your supplement sales should peak. Ensure your team know which supplements to push and the reason behind the recommendations.
Ideally you should start highlighting immunity products and seasonal remedies well in advance of cold and 'flu season, ideally 6-8 weeks. In general, immune boosters need to be taken for several weeks to take effect, so if people start to take too late they will not take effect in time for the change in the weather.
Here we take you through our best vitamins for seasonal wellbeing. Happy selling!
A Good Multivitamin
When selecting a multivitamin to see them through the winter, consumers should be looking at the levels of B vitamins, vitamin C and vitamin D, and certain individuals may want to take a separate supplement for these key nutrients.
What constitutes a good multivitamin? To us, it is one that is made from organic, non-GMO, whole food ingredients that the body easily recognises, with no fillers, binders or additives. This doesn’t necessarily mean the most expensive, but these selling points are a sure sign of quality. In the Kinetic portfolio we recommend Garden of Life mykind Organics multivitamins, personalised for different ages and genders, whilst Nature’s Answer Liquid Multiple Vitamins and Nature’s Answer Liquid Multiple Minerals are great for those who find capsules difficult to swallow.
Vitamin B12
Vitamin B12 is the most important B vitamin for immune support, as it plays an important part in white blood cell production. Most sources of vitamin B12 are from animal products, so it is particularly important that vegetarians and vegans ensure they are getting enough of this essential nutrient in their diet. We recommend Garden of Life mykind Organics Vitamin B12 Spray for an easy on-the-go dose of 5000mcg of methylated B12 (a bioavailable form that helps support its absorption.) in just one spray. This formulation is the first and only EU and USDA certified organic and non-GMO project verified B12, and is flavoured with real raspberries.
Alternatively Nature’s Answer Liquid B12 supplement provides 1000mcg of vitamin B12 in the cyanocobalamin form, taken as one dropperful daily. The formula contains a blend of QuickSorb, a proprietary blend of herbs (amla fruit, capsicum fruit and ginger rhizome) known to enhance the delivery of nutrients to the body, so provides faster absorption than tablets, capsules or softgels.
Vitamin C
Vitamin C supports the skin barrier function against pathogens and plays an important part in oxidant scavenging, which you might know better as protection from free radical damage. Vitamin C deficiency results in impaired immunity and higher susceptibility to infections. Garden of Life mykind Organics Vitamin C Spray is ideal for on-the-go dosing, but for the times when customers need a higher dose, perhaps they have a compromised immune system or have been ill, we would recommend Ener-C Vitamin C Powder with 1000mg per sachet- just add to water.
Vitamin D
In the wintertime the sun is not strong enough for us to naturally create vitamin D. Our stores last about 3 months from summer, which leaves us with around another 3 months where we could be deficient. Vitamin D plays a large and important part in how our immune system responds to illness and infection, and a deficiency may lead to an increased susceptibility to infection.
Nature’s Answer Vitamin D3 Drops offer 4,000iu of vitamin D per two-drop serving, and can be easily added to water or food. For better absorption, a base of extra virgin oil and medium chain triglycerides have been used in this formula, and no other unnecessary excipients added. The vitamin D3 is sourced from Lanolin, and therefore suitable for vegetarians.
Garden of Life mykind Organics Vitamin D3 Spray offers the same portable convenience as the other sprays, and provides the bioavailable wholefood form of vitamin D3 with 1000 IU per spray, sourced from the plant lichen. The formula contains pumpkin seed oil and cranberry seed oil to enhance vitamin D3’s absorption. All with a delicious vanilla flavour: we recommend you keep testers for all the Garden of life sprays on the shop floor.
Vitamins Across Categories
We all know that vitamins are essential for all sorts of metabolic functions in the body. Whilst most customers know they probably should be taking a multivitamin, they might not have thought about vitamins in their skincare. You could use this season as an opportune moment to create an eye-catching window display, tabletops, even a winter vitamins category on shelf covering beauty and body and supplements, and educating through your digital activity about the role these vitamins play in skin and immune health.
Kinetic’s offering of vitamin-infused skincare includes:
