Optimise your energy and wellbeing this summer with our nutrition tips and curated product suggestions*.

Lack of energy is a common problem that we have probably all experienced to varying degrees. Low energy levels can be due to many factors including physical stress, too much or little exercise, not enough sleep, worry, overworking and shortfalls in the diet. If energy issues or tiredness persists, talk to your doctor to rule out medical conditions.

It can be very tempting to reach for sugary and refined foods, caffeine and other stimulants when we are tired – they give us a quick energy rush, but do not sustain lasting energy. Moreover, they often result in blood glucose swings and energy slumps a little later in the day. Reassessing and balancing lifestyle factors such as stress levels and diet, can go a long way in restoring and maintaining your inner strength and energy levels this summer.

A balanced, varied wholefood diet will supply you with energy supporting nutrients such as B vitamins, magnesium, iron and vitamin C. Be sure to get your five vegetables a day including green leafy veggies. Research studies have shown that dehydration, even to a small degree, can negatively affect energy and concentration. While working and playing, keep a jug of water on your desk or a bottle close by, so that you can replenish your body throughout the day. If you find you often feel ‘wired and tired’, you may want to support your nervous system by incorporating rituals of relaxation into your day – such as baths with essential oils as well as meditation.

All types of stress, whether mental, emotional or physical, can take a toll on your daily and long-term energy by wearing away your inner resources. The adrenal glands - the tiny glands that sit above the kidneys; play a key role in the body’s response to internal and external stressors.  By supporting your adrenal glands, you can effectively recharge your batteries.

Ashwagandha – Ayurvedic prized botanical!

Ashwagandha has been traditionally used to strengthen and calm the body and mind. The active constituents are thought to have ‘adaptogenic’ properties. The term ‘adaptogen’ describes a compound that may help the body adapt to stress and support the adrenal glands. In fact, clinical research has observed Ashwagandha’s cortisol lowering ability – this is good news to those wanting to bring more relaxation as well as energy into their lives. The botanical is one of the most revered in Ayurveda, the traditional medicine from India. In Latin, it is known as Withania Somnifera, but is also commonly referred to as Indian Gooseberry - its name is attributed to the orange-red berry produced during the autumn season. The name Ashwagandha is believed to be derived from the Sanskrit word for ‘horse’ (ashva). It has been translated as supporting the vitality and strength of a horse!

By using carefully controlled cold-extraction techniques, Nature’s Answer captures the Holistic Balance® of Ashwagandha Root in their unique alcohol-free liquid herbal extract. Supplying 1,200 mg of sustainably sourced, pure and potent botanical per daily serving.

Rhodiola Root - Cold climate ‘adaptogen’

Rhodiola is a botanical that generally grows in the cold, mountainous regions of Europe and Asia, as well as in Alaska. It has been used for centuries, particularly in Russia to help cope with the cold Siberian climate. The natural bioactive constituents in Rhodiola, such as rosavins and salidrosides, are thought to help reduce fatigue and exhaustion. Traditional herbalists classify the botanical as an ‘adaptogen’ and therefore believe it to be supportive in prolonged stressful situations. It has also been suggested in aiding psychological wellbeing, stamina, endurance and mental clarity.

Being in a liquid form, Nature’s Answer Rhodiola Root concentrated alcohol-free extract provides fast and efficient absorption.

Eleuthero Root – Siberian Ginseng

Commonly known as Siberian Ginseng, Eleuthero has been recognised for its benefits and used as far back as 2000 years ago. It is thought to be a mild natural stimulant. It is now popular among those with busy lifestyles wanting to invigorate physical energy, as well as those engaged in sports, exercise and performance.
