Following our first blog for our Guide to Peaceful Sleep, our Head Nutritionist has listed below a few supplement suggestions that can support your customers on their healthy sleep journey.

1. Magnesium
Magnesium is a key mineral involved in about 300 processes in the body. Research shows that low levels of Magnesium contribute to low levels of our sleep hormone, melatonin. We also know that stress depletes us of Magnesium and so does the poorer quality of ours soils in the UK. Magnesium has been shown to help support restorative sleep in clinical studies. 2. Valerian
Valerian officinalis traditionally known for years, been used for years to help support sleep difficulties. Valerian’s antioxidants Hesperidin and Linarin are thought to play a role in helping to help calm a busy mind. Possibly by reducing the time it takes for one to fall asleep while improving sleep quality and duration. Calming the nervous system in response to stress and anxiety is the best effect you would want your clients to gain.

3. Skullcap
Skullcap herb is known to exert a ‘double action’ on the nervous system, that of relaxing nervous tension while building the central nervous system. As a mild bitter herb, it has traditionally shown to help support the digestion and liver.

4. Passionflower
Shown to support sleep with their sedative effect. Also known as passiflora, it contains natural plant compounds such as alkaloids, flavonoids and the 8-pyrone derivative which work together to support passionflower’s sedative action on the central nervous system.

5. B complex
